Towngate Theatre bosses have launched a district-wide talent search for an undiscovered star to take the lead role this Christmas. In the style of hit TV show Any Dream Will Do, one actress will win the opportunity of a lifetime to head up the cast of a professional show.
Paul Brace, Basildon Council’s theatre manager, said: “This is fantastic chance for an unknown actress to become a real theatre star. Panto brings the community together, and we want to celebrate that by casting a local actress in the leading role. We will be scouring the district for stars-in-the-making and giving one of them the chance to play Cinderella.
“This is an exciting opportunity for someone with dazzling talent and personality to perform in front of a live panto audience.”
Auditions are taking place at the Towngate Theatre this month and are open to anyone over the age of 17. They will be put through their paces in singing, acting and dancing before a panel of music and theatre experts will whittle the hopeful 'Cinderella’s' down to one.
Mr Brace added: “The successful actress will be expected to take part in
more than 40 shows, and with rehearsals starting in November, we want someone
who is prepared for a roller-coaster ride.”
Auditions for Cinderella are taking place in the Towngate Theatre on Sunday18 May from 10am. Rehearsals for the production of Cinderella begin Monday 17 November with the performances running from Thursday 4 December 2008 to Sunday 4 January2009.
