A new exercise bicycle to help patients recover after surgery has been donated to The Essex Cardiothoracic Centre by Hindu Samaj (Basildon District).
£360 for the bicycle was raised at special charity buffet (supported by Moza Indian Restaurant), where 120 members of Hindu Samaj, their families and friends, came together to enjoy good food and music.
Tina Faulkner, General Manager Cardiothoracic Services said: "When patients are recovering in hospital following major heart or lung surgery, it is important that they start to exercise the muscles in their chest as soon as possible. Having an exercise bike based on the ward means that, even when patients are not yet well enough to venture far from their bed, they can start gentle exercise, which can help them to regain some muscle strength and greatly enhance their recovery."
