New Pond and Wildlife Garden at Norsey Wood

New educational facilities are being created at a popular beauty spot in Billericay. More than £7,000 is being spent on a dipping pond and wildlife garden at Norsey Wood nature reserve. The project is being funded with a grant secured by the Norsey Wood Society, supported by Basildon Council. It will see a pond eight metres in diameter and a metre deep dug behind the park’s existing classroom and information centre. A wildlife garden featuring log piles, wildflowers and a compost heap will also be created.

Chris Huggins, a Countryside Ranger for Basildon Council, said: “There will be all sorts of creatures living in the pond from newts and frogs to grass snakes and dragonflies. We hope it offers new learning opportunities for young people, and a new home for wildlife.

Work is underway already and is expected to be completed next month.
